I pay for Google AI Pro, and until this week I thought I knew what I was paying for. In the Gemini app I still get Gemini 3.1 Pro and the new Gemini 4. Then I opened Antigravity, Google’s AI coding tool and the place I do my actual dev work, and the Pro models were gone. On the Gemini side, all that’s left is 3.8 Flash.
My take up front: for chatting, Google AI Pro is still fine. For coding in Antigravity, the $19.99 plan just lost the main reason I kept it, and the next tier up costs five times as much.
What Changed for Google AI Pro in Antigravity
Antigravity is Google’s coding platform built around AI agents. It comes as a desktop app, a command-line tool (CLI), and a code editor. You describe the task, the agent plans and writes the code, and you review it. Your Google AI plan decides which models that agent can use.
Here’s what Google’s Antigravity models page lists today:
| Model | AI Pro | AI Ultra | Enterprise |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gemini 4 Argon | No | Yes | Yes |
| Gemini 3.8 Flash | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Gemini 3.1 Pro, 3.7 Flash, 3.6 Flash | No | No | Yes |
| Claude Sonnet 5.5 and Opus 5.5 | Yes, except trials | Yes | Yes |
| Claude Sonnet 4.6 and Opus 4.6 | Until November 2 | No | No |

Look at the third row. Gemini 3.1 Pro didn’t move up to Ultra. It’s now listed for Enterprise only, Google’s business tier.
It happened quietly. Developers on Google’s own forum say the model disappeared between October 12 and 13, and one posted logs showing their saved “Gemini 3.1 Pro (High)” choice being silently rerouted to 3.8 Flash. A Google reply in another thread pinned it on an October 12 model lineup update. I checked Antigravity’s changelog, and the October 12 release notes don’t mention it. So far the loudest record is a forum thread full of AI Pro subscribers asking for it back.
The next day, Google brought Gemini 4 Argon to Antigravity, for Ultra subscribers and eligible Enterprise accounts.
Same Subscription, Two Different Products
This is the part that bugs me most.
The Gemini app got its own shake-up in October, and AI Pro came out of it fine. Free users dropped to Flash-Lite, the $4.99 AI Plus plan lost the Pro model, and AI Pro kept everything. I have Gemini 4 in the app right now.
In Antigravity, the same plan on the same Google account gets Flash. The one place where model quality matters most, an agent editing my code, is the one place where I got downgraded.
And Flash was never a real option for me. Every time I’ve handed 3.8 Flash, or any Flash model, a simple task, it did it badly. It felt like it had googled the problem and pasted code from the first result it found. Flash models are built to be fast and cheap, but a model that’s wrong quickly just gives me more code to review.
Even 3.1 Pro didn’t do a great job, which is why I had high hopes for Gemini 4. So the timing stings. Argon reached Antigravity the day after 3.1 Pro left it, and it went to the plan that costs five times as much.
Google’s Best Coding Option Is Now Claude
Go back to the table. For an AI Pro subscriber, the strongest models left in Google’s own coding tool are Anthropic’s Claude Sonnet 5.5 and Opus 5.5.
They’re capable models. I compared Claude with Google’s and OpenAI’s flagships in my 2026 AI models showdown. But it’s a strange pitch: pay Google, then use a competitor’s model inside Google’s tool.
There are catches:
- Separate quota. Antigravity’s usage panel tracks Claude and GPT models on their own limits, apart from Gemini. Google doesn’t publish how big the Pro allowance is.
- No trials. Claude 5.5 is only available on paid, non-trial AI Pro subscriptions.
- A deadline. The Claude 4.6 models leave on November 2.
Is Google AI Ultra Worth It Just for Antigravity?
For most solo developers, no.
Ultra starts at $99.99 a month, with five times the Pro usage allowance. That’s $80 more every month to get back a Pro-class Gemini model. And even on Ultra, Argon isn’t available in the Antigravity editor itself, only in the desktop app, the CLI, and the IDE extensions.
If you run agents all day and hit your limits every week, the math might work. If you were happy on Pro until Monday, it won’t.
What I’d Do Instead
- Only use the Gemini app? Keep AI Pro. Nothing got worse there.
- Code in Antigravity? Switch your agent to Claude Opus 5.5 while you decide, and watch the usage panel for a week before renewing.
- Need a strong Gemini model occasionally? The Antigravity CLI also works with your own Gemini API key, billed per use instead of a flat fee. I haven’t tested which models it unlocks, so check before you budget for it.
- Running lots of small jobs? Move autocomplete and routine edits to a local model and save your quota for the hard tasks.
- Ready to leave? Other coding tools are a download away, and your prompts and rules files move with you.
Pro Tip: Before you renew any AI plan, open the model picker and the usage panel in every app where you’ll use it, not just the main chat app. As this week shows, one subscription can mean different models in different apps.

The Verdict
Google AI Pro isn’t worthless. In the Gemini app it might be better value than it was last month.
But I bought it for development, and in Antigravity it’s now a Flash subscription with a Claude add-on. I’m not paying $99.99 a month to get back what $19.99 included last week. Unless Google puts a Pro-class Gemini model back on the Pro tier, I don’t see the point of keeping it for coding.
Frequently Asked Questions
Did Google remove Gemini Pro from Google AI Pro?
Not from the Gemini app, where AI Pro still includes the Pro model. In Antigravity, Gemini 3.1 Pro is now listed for Enterprise only, and AI Pro gets Gemini 3.8 Flash plus Claude models.
Can Google AI Pro use Gemini 4 Argon in Antigravity?
No. Google’s models page lists Argon in Antigravity for Ultra and Enterprise only, and not in the Antigravity editor on any plan.
Which Claude models does AI Pro get in Antigravity?
Sonnet 5.5 and Opus 5.5 on paid, non-trial subscriptions, plus Sonnet 4.6 and Opus 4.6 until November 2, 2026.
Is Google AI Ultra worth it for coding?
Only if you hit your limits regularly. It starts at $99.99 a month, five times the price of AI Pro.
